Famous last words, I think.

The first level of our house is quite open --- the family room, morning room and kitchen are all pretty much one big space and then there's a doorway from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms and another doorway from another part of the kitchen for the hall to the front foyer, bathroom and office. And then the dreaded stairs.

Since mobility has been on my mind after Sofia's disappearing act (not really, but sort of!), I thought I had come up with a good plan to keep the girls somewhat contained to our main living space. Gates at both doorways in the kitchen leading to the front part of the house and the stairs. Easy, right? So I'm sharing my idea with D and he shakes his head and says "We don't need all that stuff......I'm thinking a gate at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top is all we'll need." To which I replied, "Oh. Okay. So how do you propose to keep them out of the office or the front living room.....the bathroom.....the china cabinet......while you're in the kitchen making their lunch or in the laundry room, or whatever you're doing?" He shakes his head and says "They're not going to go in those rooms."

Oh. Really.
