Due Date

The girls will be 11 weeks old on Tuesday and today was to be my official due date. How crazy is that! Today marks the day by which the girls will be measured as their adjusted age. Because of their prematurity, the doctors give them a 3-month lag for their development meaning when they are 6 months old, they may be performing tasks that a 3-month old performs. Of course - they may not have that much of a lag in some or all tasks but if they do it will be normal. At the end of September we take them to a development center where they'll spend 2 hours watching the girls to determine where they are with their development so I'll be interested to see.

It's crazy because they're getting close to 3 months old.....and they're still smaller than alot of newborn babies. We're starting to notice changes in them, though. Their movements aren't so "jerky" anymore. They stay awake longer between feedings. There's alot less grunting (which, at times, is distressing to D and me because they seem so uncomfortable -- we've been assured it's just a preemie thing.....) and more attempts at cooing. Little rolls of baby fat gathering on their arms and legs - so cute! Our baby girls arrived so much earlier than we ever expected but they've been fighters from the beginning and we are so thankful to be able to sit back and enjoy watching them grow and develop.

Hey.....you kind of look like me! (Sofia-L; Olivia-R)
Olivia having tummy time. They're starting to be able to hold their heads up!

Do you have the book The Happiest Baby On The Block by Karp? Most of the book is hogwash, but his "5 Ss" are worth the cost of the book. Or you could probably get it from the library. It teaches the BEST way to swaddle, and I promise you that they cannot get out!
